How to download, install and activate Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021

The Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 ISO comes from the link in your order email, not Microsoft consumer page, which only carries Home and Pro. Write it to an 8 GB USB drive, do a clean install, then open Settings, Update and Security, Activation and enter your key. Allow about an hour.

Before you start

LTSC behaves differently from ordinary Windows 10. These are the points orders go wrong on.

  • This ISO is not on Microsoft download page. Use the link in your order email.
  • An Evaluation build will not take your key. Email us for the conversion steps first.
  • Expect a clean install. Home and Pro cannot change edition into LTSC, so back your files up.
  • Know what LTSC leaves out. No Microsoft Store, no Cortana, no consumer apps.
  • It stays on Windows 10. No carry-over to Windows 11. The build is supported to January 2032 instead.

Step 1

Download the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 ISO

The step people get wrong. There is no Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC download on Microsoft consumer page.

  1. Open the download link in your order email. The Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 ISO is not on Microsoft consumer page, so use the link we email you.
  2. Pick the build that matches the machine. LTSC 2021 comes as 64-bit and 32-bit. Nearly every PC built in the last decade takes 64-bit.
  3. Write the ISO to a USB drive. A spare drive of 8 GB or more, which gets erased.
  4. If you already have an Evaluation ISO, stop. It refuses a retail key and returns 0xC004F069. Email us for the conversion commands.

Anything sold as a pre-activated Windows 10 LTSC ISO is a modified image that refuses genuine keys. See our other Windows 10 licenses.

Step 2

Install Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021

A straight clean install from the USB drive, no harder than ordinary Windows 10.

  1. Back up anything you need. Home and Pro cannot change edition into LTSC, so the drive gets wiped.
  2. Boot the PC from the USB drive. Press the boot menu key as the logo appears, often F12, F11 or Esc.
  3. Start setup and skip the key for now. Click Install now, then I do not have a product key. LTSC media carries one edition, so there is no list to choose from.
  4. Choose Custom: Install Windows only. Select the drive, let setup format it, then leave it to copy files and restart.
  5. Answer the setup questions. LTSC offers a local account without argument, which is what most kiosk and till builds want. Expect 30 to 50 minutes.

On an industrial PC or till, get the Windows 10 drivers from the manufacturer before you wipe the drive. LTSC ships a smaller driver set, so network and touchscreen drivers are worth having to hand.

Step 3

Activate Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 with your key

Under a minute once the machine can reach Microsoft.

  1. Get the machine online. A key cannot be checked offline, so connect a kiosk that normally runs without a network for this one step.
  2. Open Settings, Update and Security, Activation. Windows 10 keeps activation here, not under System where Windows 11 moved it.
  3. Click Change product key and enter your key. Type the 25 character key from your order email, then Next and Activate.
  4. Or activate from a command prompt. On an image you are deploying, slmgr /ipk YOUR-KEY then slmgr /ato does the same job.

If online activation fails twice, phone activation still works: press the Windows key and R, then type slui 4. Our Confirmation ID walkthrough shows each screen.

Check that it worked

Go back to Settings, Update and Security, Activation. Three things tell you it worked.

  • Activation state reads Active. The line underneath names a digital license or a product key.
  • The edition line names LTSC. Settings, System, About should read Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC, version 21H2.
  • No Microsoft Store icon. The Store and consumer apps are absent by design.

Common errors and how to fix them

Five codes cover nearly every LTSC activation ticket we open.

0xC004F069: this edition of Windows is an evaluation copy

The ISO you installed from is an Evaluation build, which will not take a retail key however correct the key is. An evaluation installation can be converted with a DISM command, but the exact command depends on the build, so email contact@officegsm.com with your order number and we send the steps for your machine. Installing from the ISO in your order email avoids this completely.

0xC004F050: the product key is not valid

Almost always the wrong edition rather than a bad key. An IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 key only activates that edition, so entering it in Home, Pro or a different LTSC release gets refused. Check Settings, System, About and read the edition line. If it does not say IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021, reinstall from the ISO in your order email. If it does match, install pending updates, restart and retype the key.

0xC004C003: the activation server says the key is blocked

The server refuses the key, normally because it has already been activated on another machine. Nothing on the PC fixes this, and reinstalling Windows does not clear it either. Check the key character by character against your order email, then send contact@officegsm.com your order number. We look the key up and send a replacement, and the 180-day guarantee covers a refund if we cannot get you activated.

0xC004F074: Windows cannot reach the activation servers

The connection rather than the key, which is common on kiosk and industrial machines behind a tight firewall. Confirm the PC is online, then check the date, time and time zone, since a clock that is days out breaks the secure handshake. Pause any VPN or proxy and try again. If it keeps failing, press the Windows key and R, type slui 4 and use our Confirmation ID guide.

0xC004C008: the key is already in use on another device

One key activates one machine, so this appears when the key has been used elsewhere, or when the motherboard was replaced and Windows sees a new computer. On a rebuilt machine, run the Activation troubleshooter under Settings, Update and Security, Activation. A second kiosk needs its own key. Keeping a list of which key went to which machine saves guesswork as a fleet grows.

Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 download questions

What customers ask us most about this edition.

Where do I download the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 ISO?

From the link in your order email. Microsoft consumer Windows 10 page only builds Home and Pro media, so a Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC ISO is never on it, and the Evaluation Center carries evaluation builds rather than the licensed one. That is the most common reason a key looks broken: the right key entered in the wrong edition. If you cannot find the email we resend it the same day, and the link also sits in your account on our site.

How long is Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 supported?

Microsoft supports this release with security updates until January 2032, which is the whole reason people buy it. Ordinary Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025 and no longer gets security updates at all, so a Pro machine left as it is now runs unpatched. LTSC is a different servicing track: monthly security fixes, no feature updates, so the build you install behaves the same way for years. That predictability is why it suits kiosks, point of sale terminals and industrial PCs that have to keep doing one job.

Can I upgrade Windows 10 Pro to IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 in place?

No, and this catches people out. Editions on the normal servicing track cannot change into an LTSC edition by entering a key, so Change product key in Windows 10 Pro returns 0xC004F050 however many times you retry. LTSC 2021 needs a clean install from the ISO in your order email. Copy your files off first and set aside about an hour. If you want an edition change without a reinstall, a Windows 10 Pro key is the product that does that.

Does this license carry over to Windows 11?

It does not. An IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 key activates that edition and nothing else, so there is no free move to Windows 11 the way a Windows 10 Pro digital license upgrades to Windows 11 Pro. That is the trade you are making: a fixed build supported to January 2032 instead of a machine that keeps changing under you. When the hardware is eventually replaced, or a kiosk has to run current software, a Windows 11 Pro license is the usual next step, and we are happy to advise on the timing.
