Upgrading to Windows Server 2025
Microsoft supports in-place upgrade to 2025 from Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019 and 2022, which is unusually generous and makes 2025 a good consolidation target. Back up first, check that your applications support 2025, then run setup from the 2025 media and choose to keep files and apps. Domain controllers are usually better rebuilt than upgraded, but member servers upgrade well. Enter the Windows Server 2025 key during setup or afterwards with slmgr /ipk.
