How to download, install and activate Microsoft Project 2024 Professional
Your Microsoft Project Professional 2024 download is the link in the OfficeGSM order email that carries your key, and it installs Project on Windows 10 or 11. When it finishes, open Project and use File, Account, Change Product Key to enter your 25-character key. Allow 15 to 25 minutes, and skip setup.office.com.

Before you start
Project 2024 Professional is a single-app volume license for one Windows PC. Two of these checks prevent the install errors we see most.
- Project has to match your Office bit version. A 64-bit Office needs 64-bit Project. Setup stops rather than mixing them.
- Built to sit beside Office 2024. See our Office 2024 Professional Plus guide if you are installing both.
- Keeping Microsoft 365 on the same PC? Contact us before you install. The two share an update engine and the order matters.
- Your key is not redeemed at setup.office.com. It goes into Project, under File, Account.
- Windows 10 or 11 only. Project has no Mac version, and support runs to October 9, 2029.

Download Microsoft Project 2024 Professional
Two supported routes, both from Microsoft. Use the first unless you look after several machines.
- Open the link in your order email. Your Microsoft Project 2024 download link sits beside the 25-character key and arrives within minutes of paying.
- Or use the Office Deployment Tool. Download the tool from Microsoft, add a configuration.xml with the Product ID ProjectPro2024Volume, then run setup.exe /configure configuration.xml. Ask and we send the file ready to use.
- Ignore setup.office.com. This is a volume license. There is nothing to redeem with a Microsoft account, and a key typed there is refused.
- Choose the bit version your Office already uses. In any Office app, File, Account, About says 64-bit or 32-bit. Project has to match it.

Install Project 2024 on Windows 10 or 11
A plain Click-to-Run install with nothing to configure and no restart afterwards.
- Close Word, Excel and Outlook first. Project runs on the Office installer engine, so setup stalls if another Office app is holding files open.
- Run the installer and approve the Windows prompt. Nothing is configurable, so the window that opens is only a progress bar.
- Allow fifteen to twenty-five minutes. Files come down from Microsoft as it goes, so the speed depends on your connection.
- Open Project once and accept the terms. You reach the template screen, with Blank Project at the front. Nothing is activated yet.
Plans made in Project 2021 or 2019 open in Project 2024 without converting, and a .mpp file saved here still opens for colleagues on those versions.
Activate Project 2024 with your product key
Under a minute, and it happens inside Project rather than on a website.
- In Project, click File, then Account. Account is at the foot of the left-hand column, showing the product name and the license state.
- Click Change Product Key. If the page offers only Sign in, close that dialog. A Microsoft account does not activate this key.
- Enter the 25-character key from your order email. Paste it if you can. Dashes are filled in for you and capitals do not matter.
- Click Activate, then restart Project. The key is checked with Microsoft and confirmed on screen. Reopening refreshes the Account page.

Check that it worked
Go back to File, Account in Project. Three things tell you the license landed.
- Product Activated appears under the product name. No countdown and no Buy now button.
- The product line names Project Professional 2024. If it says Standard, the wrong build went on.
- Resource Pool and Project Server options are there. Look on the Resource tab, which is the quickest proof you have Professional.
Common errors and how to fix them
Five messages cover nearly every Project 2024 ticket we open, and each has a fix you can do yourself.
0xC004C020: the activation limit for this key has been reached
Online activation has been turned down and the key needs telephone activation, which is a normal route for a volume key rather than a sign of a bad one. Project opens a phone wizard: choose your country, call the automated Microsoft line, read out the Installation ID and type in the Confirmation ID you are given. Setup says Office of a different bit version is installed
Project has to match the bit version of the Office on the PC, and the installer stops rather than building a mix that will not run. Check File, Account, About in Word, then install the matching Project build. If you would rather move Office to 64-bit, uninstall it and reinstall the 64-bit build first. Ask us for the configuration file if that sounds like more work than you want.
30015-25 or 30038-25: an existing Office is blocking the install
Setup has found an Office product it cannot sit beside, usually a Microsoft 365 trial that came with the computer. Remove it under Settings, Apps, restart, then run the installer again. Where the entry will not uninstall cleanly, Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant clears the leftovers. Tell us what the machine already has and we will say what needs to go first.
An Unlicensed Product banner across the top of Project
Project installed but the key never reached it, or it went into another app. Click File, Account, Change Product Key and enter the key from your order email again. If the strip is still there after a restart, use Update Options, Update Now on the same page and reopen Project. A PC that has been offline for weeks shows this until it checks in once.
0xC004C060 or the product key you entered is not valid
Usually the key going into the wrong app, or one mistyped character. This key activates Project Professional 2024 and nothing else, so Project Standard, Project 2021 and Word all refuse it. Read it back against the order email character by character. If it matches and Project still refuses it, send us your order number: we check the key, replace it, or refund you under the 180-day guarantee.

Where do I download Microsoft Project 2024?

Standard suits a single planner working on their own schedules and nothing wider. If you share resources with colleagues, or your organization runs Project Server, you want Professional.
Can I install Project 2024 next to Office 2024 or Microsoft 365?
Project 2024 is built to sit beside Office 2024, and the two install together without fuss as long as the bit versions match. Microsoft 365 is the awkward one: it shares the Click-to-Run engine but runs on a different update channel, and installing Project 2024 over it can break one side or the other. How long is Project 2024 supported, and should I buy 2021 instead?
Microsoft supports Project 2024 with security updates until October 9, 2029. Project 2021 Professional at $8.99 is cheaper but its support ends on October 13, 2026, which is close enough to matter on a computer you plan to keep.
