How to download, install and activate Microsoft Access 2024
Your Microsoft Access 2024 download is the link in the OfficeGSM order email that carries your key, and it installs the database app on Windows 10 or 11. When it finishes, open Access and use File, Account, Change Product Key to enter your 25-character key. Allow 10 to 20 minutes, and skip setup.office.com.

Before you start
Access 2024 on its own is a single-app volume license. A few checks first save a reinstall later.
- This is the database app alone. Access is also part of Office 2024 Professional Plus at $14.95, which is cheaper if you want the rest too.
- Only running a database, not building one? Microsoft’s free Access Runtime may be all you need.
- Your key is not redeemed at setup.office.com. It goes into Access, under File, Account.
- Match the bit version of any Office on the PC. A 64-bit Office needs 64-bit Access.
- Windows 10 or 11 only. Access has no Mac version at all, from Microsoft or anyone else.

Download Microsoft Access 2024
Two supported routes, both from Microsoft. Use the first unless you are setting up several machines.
- Use the link in your order email. Your Microsoft Access 2024 download link arrives beside the 25-character key, within minutes of paying.
- Or install with the Office Deployment Tool. Download the tool from Microsoft, add a configuration.xml naming Access, then run setup.exe /configure configuration.xml. Ask and we send the file ready to use.
- Do not go to setup.office.com. This is a volume license. There is nothing to redeem there, and a key typed into that page is refused.
- Check 64-bit against any Office already installed. Open an Office app, then File, Account, About. Access has to match what it says.

Install Access 2024 on Windows 10 or 11
A plain Click-to-Run install with nothing to configure and no restart afterwards.
- Close Office and any open database. Setup cannot replace files that Access, Word or Outlook are holding open.
- Run the installer and approve the prompt. There is nothing to configure, so the window that appears is only a progress bar.
- Give it ten to twenty minutes. Files stream down from Microsoft, so your connection sets the pace.
- Open Access once and accept the terms. You reach the template screen. Nothing is activated yet.
Databases made in older versions open in Access 2024 in the .accdb format. A very old .mdb file still opens, but back it up before you let Access convert it.
Activate Access 2024 with your product key
Under a minute, and it happens inside Access rather than on a website.
- Open Access and click File, then Account. Account sits at the foot of the left-hand column, with the product name and license state.
- Click Change Product Key. If the page only offers Sign in, close that dialog. A Microsoft account is not what activates this key.
- Enter the 25-character key from your order email. Paste it if you can. Dashes are filled in for you and capitals do not matter.
- Click Activate, then restart Access. Access checks the key with Microsoft and confirms on screen. Reopening refreshes the Account page.

Check that it worked
Go back to File, Account. Three things tell you the license landed.
- Product Activated shows under the product name. No countdown and no Buy now button.
- The product line names Access 2024. A Microsoft 365 name there means the wrong copy is open.
- No banner above the ribbon. An Unlicensed Product strip means the key has not taken.
Common errors and how to fix them
Five messages cover nearly every Access 2024 ticket we open, and each has a fix you can do yourself.
0xC004C020: the activation limit for this key has been reached
Online activation has been turned down and the key needs telephone activation, which is normal for a volume key rather than a fault. Access opens a phone wizard: pick your country, call the automated Microsoft line, read the Installation ID out and type in the Confirmation ID you are given. 30015-25 or 30038-25: another Office is blocking the install
Setup has found an Office installation it cannot sit next to, usually a Microsoft 365 trial that shipped with the PC. Remove it from Settings, Apps, restart, then run the installer again. If the entry will not uninstall cleanly, Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant clears the leftovers. Tell us what the machine already has and we will say what needs to go first.
An Unlicensed Product or Product Activation Required banner in Access
Access installed but the key never went in. Click File, Account, Change Product Key and type it again from your order email. If the strip is still there after a restart, run Update Options, Update Now on the same page and reopen Access. A PC that has been offline for a long stretch shows this until it reaches Microsoft once.
0xC004F074: Access cannot reach the activation servers
The connection rather than the key. Confirm the PC is online, then check the date, time and time zone, since a clock that is days out breaks the secure handshake. Pause a VPN, proxy or office firewall and try again, since each of them can sit in the way. 0xC004C060 or the product key you entered is not valid
Usually the key going into the wrong app, or one mistyped character. This key activates Access 2024 and nothing else, so it is refused in Word, in an older Access, or in a Microsoft 365 copy. Read it back against the order email character by character. If it matches and Access still refuses, send us your order number: we check the key, replace it, or refund you under the 180-day guarantee.

Where do I download Microsoft Access 2024?

Do I need a license if I only want to run someone else’s database?
Probably not. Microsoft publishes a free Access Runtime on its Download Center, and it opens and runs an existing .accdb database without any license at all. What it cannot do is create or change tables, queries, forms and reports, so the person who builds the database needs the full Access 2024 license while everyone who only uses it can stay on the runtime. How long is Access 2024 supported?
Microsoft supports this release with security updates until October 9, 2029. The license is perpetual, so Access carries on running your databases after that date, it simply stops receiving patches, which is when most people move to the current release. Until then there is no renewal and no subscription: one payment, one PC, and the key stays valid on it. Moving to a replacement computer is fine as long as Access comes off the old one first.
