How to download, install and activate Windows 11 Pro N
The Windows 11 Pro N download is Microsoft’s free page at microsoft.com/software-download/windows11, where one set of media carries every edition and your key picks the one you keep. Install it, choosing Pro N when setup asks, then enter your 25-character key in Settings, System, Activation. Allow about an hour, plus five minutes for the Media Feature Pack if you want media playback.

Before you start
Two things decide how smoothly this goes: the edition you install has to be the N one, and Windows 11 is strict about hardware.
- Have your key and order email open. Both are also saved in your account on our site.
- Know that N means no media apps. The Media Feature Pack adds them back free, from Settings.
- Run Microsoft’s PC Health Check app to confirm TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are in place.
- Turn TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot on in the UEFI firmware if the check fails. Most PCs have them switched off.
- Back up your files, because moving a standard Pro PC to Pro N means a clean install.

Download Windows 11 Pro N from Microsoft
One Microsoft page holds every way to download Windows 11, free, and there is no separate Pro N file to hunt for.
- Open the official page. Go to microsoft.com/software-download/windows11. Media from other sites is often modified, and that is the usual reason a genuine key is refused.
- Choose the Media Creation Tool or the ISO. Either one lets you pick the edition during setup, which matters for an N key.
- Build an 8 GB USB drive with the Media Creation Tool, or right-click the ISO and choose Mount to run setup from Windows.
- Leave the language as it is, because mixing languages causes trouble later.
The Installation Assistant keeps the edition already on the PC, so it cannot turn a standard Pro machine into Pro N. Use the Media Creation Tool or the ISO for that.
Install Windows 11 Pro N and pick the right edition
This is the step that decides if your key will be accepted, so take the edition screen slowly.
- Start setup. Boot the PC from the USB drive, or run setup.exe from the mounted ISO.
- Enter the key at the setup screen if you are offered the chance, because Windows then installs Pro N for you.
- Or choose “I don’t have a product key” and select Windows 11 Pro N from the list. Pro without the N is the wrong one.
- Accept the license terms, and setup checks the hardware. It stops here if TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot is off.
- Choose the drive carefully, because a clean install erases the partition you pick, then let it run to the desktop.
Expect two or three restarts. If the PC keeps booting into the USB drive, remove it once copying is finished.
Activate Windows 11 Pro N with your product key
Activation is one screen. Have the 25-character key from your OfficeGSM order email ready and keep the PC online.
- Open Activation settings. Press the Windows key, type Activation and open the result, or go to Settings, System, Activation.
- Check the edition first. It must read Windows 11 Pro N. A Pro N key will not activate plain Pro.
- Click Change product key, then Change in the panel that opens.
- Paste the key from your order email rather than typing it, and click Next.
- Click Activate, then reopen the page and confirm it reads Activation state: Active.

Check that it worked
Go back to Settings, System, Activation and compare the page with the list below. If all four match you are finished, and nothing expires.
- The edition reads Windows 11 Pro N, with the N present.
- Activation state says Active, with no countdown and no watermark in the corner.
- Pro features are there. BitLocker, Remote Desktop and Hyper-V all appear, exactly as in standard Pro.
- Media playback works once the Media Feature Pack is installed from Settings, System, Optional features.

0xC004F050 – “the product key entered did not work”
On an N key this is almost always an edition mismatch rather than a bad key. A Pro N key activates Windows 11 Pro N only, so if the Activation page reads Pro without the N, Windows refuses it. Reinstall from the Microsoft media and pick Pro N, or enter the key at the setup screen so the right edition is installed. Copy the key from the order email as well, since one wrong character produces the same message.
Windows Media Player, Movies & TV or Groove is missing
Nothing is broken. N editions ship without Microsoft’s media apps and codecs, which is the whole difference between Pro and Pro N. Open Settings, System, Optional features, click View features or Add an optional feature, search for Media Feature Pack, select it and install, then restart. The media apps and their codecs come back, and nothing else about the PC changes.

What is Windows 11 Pro N and how is it different?
